James Arthur Ray

James Arthur "Jimmy" Ray, age 83 of Mitchell, passed away on January 28, 2023, at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington. He was born on May 25, 1939, in Mitchell, Indiana to parents William Marvin and Mary Jane (Elrod) Ray. He married Patricia Janeen Vollrath on September 10, 1960, and they were sealed in the Washington D.C. Temple on August 5, 1975. He was retired from U.S. Gypsum of Shoals. Jimmy also raised cattle and enjoyed coon hunting. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Bedford.

Daughters: Pamela (David) Malone of Seymour & Robyn Celeste (Mike) Bales of Summerfield, FL

Grandchildren: Emily Wing, Ashley White, Amanda Barrett, Whitney Ray, Tanner Ray, Morgan Ray, Logan Ray, Landon Ray, Layken King, Jimmy Bales, Andy Bales, Chad Malone, David Malone, Suzann Sorensen, Meghan Preston, Olivia Ray, Owen Ray, Joshua Ray, Kamen Ray, Kaden Ray, Kiana Ray, Kurri Ray, Kristen Calentine, & adopted grandchild Brandon Armstrong

James was preceded in death by his parents, sister- Barbara Grider, twin daughters- Lana Lea & Lori Lynn, and grandson - Jerrod Bales

The funeral will be 11 am Thursday, February 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1010 22nd Street, Bedford, IN 47421. The visitation will be Wednesday, February 1, from 6-8 pm at the church and Thursday after 10 am until service time. Tracy Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in the Mitchell Cemetery.
