Martha J. Jackson, age 83, of Orleans, passed away March 25, 2025, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana.
She was born April 1, 1941, in Kyles Ford, Hancock County, Tennessee, to Rufus Testerman Baker and Georgia (Willis) Baker. Martha was a graduate of the Paoli High School Class of 1959. On February 19, 1960, she married Roger Lee Jackson, who preceded her in death.
Martha held many roles throughout her life—working at Travelers, selling Avon, Sarah Coventry jewelry, and Stanley products, and serving as a cook for Orleans Elementary School. However, outside of raising her children, her greatest personal accomplishment was earning her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Elementary Education from Indiana University Southeast. She taught for Orleans Community Schools until her retirement and was a dedicated member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
She was also a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Lana J. Goldsby of Orleans; granddaughter, Laundon Mercedes Goldsby of Camby; sister, Joyce (Mark) Newlin of Plainfield; brothers, Rolf (Donna) Baker of Orleans and George Baker of Salem; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her: parents; husband; son, Robert Lee Jackson; and three brothers, Clint, John, and Tom Baker.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 1 at 11:00 AM at McAdams Mortuary in Paoli with Pastor Jared Hardin officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Orleans. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 31 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the service.
