Phillip Carol Lane

With sadness, the family announces the passing of Phillip Carol Lane, 80, of Valeene Indiana. Phillip passed away May 4, 2024, at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville Kentucky.

Phillip was a 1962 graduate of Paoli High School and he obtained his undergraduate degree from Oakland City College and his master's of Education from Indiana University, Bloomington.  Phillip served in the Armed Forces from 1968-1971 and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was a retired educator, teaching at Waldron, Orleans, and Elizabethtown (KY) School Systems, retiring from Paoli Community Schools in 2000.  He then retired from the Kroger Co. in 2009.  Phillip attended Marengo Christian Church.

Phillip was a dedicated flower gardener, an avid reader, and a Jeopardy-level expert in Roman, Greek, and Egyptian Mythology and History.  He enjoyed spending time rescuing and fostering cats and had love for all animals and nature.

Phillip enjoyed traveling and took great pride in the accomplishments and endeavors of all 6 nieces and nephews, and all 17 of his great-nieces and great-nephews, who survive.

Phillip was born in Paoli, Indiana on January 24, 1944.   He was the second-born son of Carol Thomas Lane and Beulah Adele (Toney) Lane.

He is survived by longtime and loyal friend Dan A. Van Meter; brothers Gene D. Lane (Lynne) of New Albany, Mark A. Lane (Karen) of Morristown; and brother-in-law, Charles D Goller of Paoli

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beverly Lane Goller.

The funeral will take place at McAdams Mortuary on May 9, 2024. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1pm; with the funeral starting at 1pm.  Burial will follow at Valeene Cemetery. Military rites provided by Orleans American Legion Post #69.
