Thelma Fern (Apple) Holland

Thelma Fern Apple Holland, 87, of French Lick, died November 3 at Bloomington Hospital.

The third of six daughters, she was born July 25, 1933 in Orange County to Joseph Benjamin Apple and Golda May Kirby Apple. On August 13, 1949, she married Samuel Lee Holland, who survives her.

Fern attended Paoli High School, was a homemaker, and a lifelong member of Youngs Creek Church of Christ. She loved her family fiercely and devoted her life to them and will be missed immensely by those who love her so deeply. She encompassed the saying that family is everything. She was a private person who possessed an infectious laugh and sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her son Sammy Mark Holland, granddaughter Karolyn Slotten, great-grandson Jacob Fontanetta, sisters Anna Lee Crockett, Dorothy Livingston, and Grace Robbins, and her uncle Orville Kirby, who was raised like a brother to her.

In addition to her husband of 71 years, she is survived by her children: Barbara Holland Agan (Jeffrey) of Floyds Knobs, Kelly Lee Holland of Paoli, Jerry L. Holland (Connie) of Paoli, and Jo Leigh Holland of Georgetown; 11 grandchildren: Holly Agan Fontanetta (Joseph) of Goose Creek, SC, Kristin Agan Ogden (James N. IV) of Mobile, AL, Jennipher Holland Carter of Paoli, Samuel D. Holland (Jo Ellen) of Bedford, Jerri R. Holland Corbin (Michael) of Bedford, Benton Lee Holland (Sarah) of Paoli, John B. Agan (Melissa) of Anchorage, KY, Kyley Holland Lausch (Adam) of RI, Kimberly Holland Brock (Chad) of Bedford, Hillary Slotten Wimsatt (Robert) of Georgetown, and Haley Holland of AR; grandson by marriage: Nathan Hughes; 30 great-grandchildren: Catherine  Fontanetta, Caroline Fontanetta, Virginia Holland Ogden, Beatrice Ogden, Alexandria Carnes, Wesley Carnes, Ian Strange, Keagan Strange, Parker Carter, MarciAnna Carter, Samuel D. Holland, Jay Holland, Mallory Holland, Tucker Corbin, Houston Corbin, Wyatt Corbin, Alyssa Holland, Isaiah Holland, Jeremiah Holland, Zachary Holland, Johanna Holland, Eliza Agan, Jack Agan, Henry Agan, Nicholas Reynolds, Belle Reynolds, Adley Lausch, Chase Brock, Ani Jo Brock, and Ryleigh Wimsatt.; seven great-great grandchildren; sisters Bonnie Bennett of Indianapolis and Joy Pittman of Bristow; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1pm Sunday, November 8 at Patoka Chapel Cemetery. Due to the pandemic the family requests guests remain in their vehicles to observe the service. Bro. David Galloway will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to Patoka Chapel Cemetery, c/o Connie Livingston, 9018 S County Road, 625 West, English, IN 47118.
